Galveston College, Tyler JC take top two spots in Region 14 Tournament

It took a lot of sweat, a few tears and, eventually, a bit of blood before a champion was crowned in the 2018 NJCAA Region 14 Softball Tournament. In the end, it was the Galveston College Whitecaps who will represent the conference as its champion, while Tyler Junior College earns the runner-up spot.

After three days of the NJCAA Region 14 Softball Tournament, three were left standing. Galveston College clinched a trip to the NJCAA National Softball Tournament on Sunday afternoon while Bossier Parish Community College and Tyler Junior College will battle it out Monday morning for the second automatic berth as the regional tourney finishes up at Lamar State College Port Arthur’s Martin Field.

Despite an inauspicious start to the first day of play at the Faulkner State Sun Chief Classic, Lamar State College Port Arthur clarified one point – the Seahawks can play ball. After an early-morning 9-1 loss to Jones County (Fla.) Community College, the Seahawks rebounded for back-to-back wins, taking a 13-3 decision over Central Alabama CC and a 10-6 win over Southern Union (Ala.) CC on Friday.
