It isn't hard to find the Paris Junior College gym. Up in northeast Texas, almost in Oklahoma, the Walker Center drive and parking lot are full of signs saying this is where you get your COVID 19 shots.
Lamar State College Port Arthur could have used a few more basketball shots swishing through the nets — or a few more foul shots, period — but, instead fell to PJC's Dragons 66-59 Saturday afternoon in a NJCAA Region 14 men's game.
After scoring 15 3-pointers in a double overtime win over Blinn Wednesday, the Seahawks connected Saturday on just 7 of 29 shots (24%) from outside the bonus arc and 25 of 69 (36%) overall.
By itself, that would have been enough to top Paris, which hit 22 shots from the field. But the Dragons were 15 of 16 from the free throw line while the Seahawks shot only four foul shots, hitting two.
Ty Archibald, who led LSCPA with 17 points, hit 5 treys, with 11 of those points coming in the game's final 2 minutes.
The Dragons, 8-9, put four scorers in double figures and led by as many as 13 in the first half before heading into intermission with a 34-23 lead.
Archibald's 3-ball with 8:51 left in the game cut PJC's lead to 3 points at 49-46.
The Hawks, 5-12, could not get closer than that. Archibald scored 11 points, including a trio of 3s in the final 2 minutes to get LSCPA within 5, 64-59, with 11.4 seconds left.
Joe Lucien was next on the scoring charts for the Seahawks. He scored 14 and grabbed 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the year.
Des McQuain added 9 points and both Kanntrell Burney and Adrian Caldwell II finished with 6 points. Kobi Johnson scored 5 points and dished out 7 assists.
The Seahawks have four regular season games remaining before the April 6-10 Region 14 tournament in Jacksonville. Up next is Navarro College at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 24 at the Parker Center in Port Arthur.
