Seahawks Show Grit at East West Challenge, Ready to Rebound at Home

PLANO, Texas – Lamar State College Port Arthur showcased determination and talent at the East West Challenge this weekend, taking on two formidable opponents in back-to-back matchups that tested their resolve and highlighted their potential.


On Friday, the Seahawks faced undefeated host Collin College in a clash of unbeaten teams. Sophomore guard Zion Young led the charge with 20 points, keeping LSCPA competitive throughout the contest. Freshman forward Jaylon Johnson added eight points and nine rebounds, while sophomore center Martins Adonry dominated the glass with a team-high 13 rebounds. Despite a 59-49 loss, the Seahawks proved they can hang tough with top-tier competition.


Saturday's game brought another challenge as LSCPA squared off against No. 18-ranked Midland College. Adonry nearly posted a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds, while Young and sophomore guard Christian Andrews each contributed nine points. Andrews also grabbed nine rebounds, helping the Seahawks stay close early before Midland pulled away late in the first half. The Chaparrals secured a 72-50 win, but LSCPA's effort and intensity never wavered.


Now 3-2 on the season, the Seahawks return to Port Arthur with valuable experience and a chance to regroup during a four-game homestand at the Carl Parker Center. The action tips off Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. against Concordia University, followed by matchups with St. Thomas (Nov. 22), Strength & Motion International (Nov. 25), and Panola College (Dec. 3).


With strong individual performances and a hunger to bounce back, the Seahawks are poised to make a statement on their home court.
