Mendez Leads Seahawks to Dominant 102-39 Victory Over St. Thomas JV

PORT ARTHUR, Texas – Nisani Mendez scored 26 points to lead five Lamar State College Seahawks in double figures as the Seahawks cruised to a 102-39 over the visiting University of St. Thomas JV squad at the Carl Parker Center on Saturday afternoon.

Mendez also grabbed eight rebounds as LSCPA (5-2) improved to 5-0 at home this season. Zion Young had 18 points for the winners, while Hayden Underwood had 14 points, Isaiah Brooks had 13 points, and J'Mar Franklin chipped in 10 points. Jaylon Johnson had a game-high 10 rebounds for the Seahawks, who had a 58-22 advantage on the boards for the game.

"We've done a good job rebounding all season," LSCPA coach Lance Madison said. "That's something we take pride in."

The Seahawks shot 53.9 percent from the field (41-of-76) on the day. LSCPA had 26 assists, setting up several glorious opportunities.

"We've stressed giving up a good opportunity for a great opportunity," Madison said. "We did that today."

Geronimo Becerra led St. Thomas with 16 points.

The Seahawks continue their four-game homestand when they host Strength & Motion International at 2 p.m. Tuesday before regional play starts at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 when Panola College pays a visit to the Carl Parker Center.
