PORT ARTHUR, Texas – Nisani Mendez scored 17 points to lead three Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks in double figures as LSCPA wrapped up non-region play with a 79-52 victory over Strength N Motion International at the Carl Parker Center on Tuesday afternoon.
Zion Young had 16 points for the Seahawks (6-2), while Isaiah Brooks had 12 points. Martins Adonry had eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds in the win. LSCPA led 45-20 at intermission and cruised to victory in the second half.
"We had a great first half," LSCPA coach Lance Madison said. "We lost a little bit of focus in the second half. I think we started to think about the Thanksgiving break, but we regained that focus."
The Seahawks held a 47-36 advantage on the boards. LSCPA continued to get good looks inside, as the Seahawks had 21 assists on their 30 field goals. Hayden Underwood led the way with six assists, while J'Mar Franklin and Christian Andrews each contributed five assists.
Daniel Wiktorek came off the bench to lead Strength N Motion with 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Seahawks are off until hosting nationally ranked Panola College at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 in the Parker Center in the Region XIV opener for both squads. The Ponies are ranked 25th in the latest NJCAA poll.
"We have a very strong region," Madison said. "Last year, three teams from our region made the Elite 8, with Trinity Valley winning the national championship."
