PORT ARTHUR, Texas – The Lamar State College Seahawks start the quest for Region XIV men's basketball glory when they take on the host Lee College Navigators at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Baytown, Texas.
The Seahawks (13-17 overall, 7-15 Region XIV) are the No. 10 seed in the 12-team tournament. Lee (16-14, 11-11) is the seventh seed. Lee swept the two-game series from LSCPA in the regular season, claiming a 95-74 win at Lee on Jan. 7 before posting a 68-56 win in Port Arthur on Jan. 28.
Zion Young leads the Seahawks in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game. Young drained a team-best 71 3-pointers during the regular season, connecting on 44.4 percent (71-of-160) of his shots beyond the arc. Christian Andrews averages 11.2 points per game and leads LSCPA with 112 assists.
Martins Adony averages 9.8 points and a team-leading 9.9 rebounds per game. Adonry enters the tournament with a team-leading seven double-doubles during the regular season.
Young averaged 17.5 ppg in the two games against Lee this season, while Adonry averaged 10.5 rebounds in the two contests.
Second-round games are scheduled for Thursday at Lee College. The top four seeds received first-round byes.
