Gulf Shores, Ala. — Lamar State College Port Arthur Softball opened Day 1 of the Coyote Classic on Friday with a resilient, confidence‑building performance. LSCPA moves to 1–5 overall, but Friday's showing reflected clear growth and competitive edge.

Game 1: Co-Lin 13, LSCPA 1

Moreno's Early Home Run Sparks Strong Start

LSCPA struck first against the reigning national champions when Abigail Moreno blasted a solo home run to left in the opening inning, giving the Seahawks an early jolt of momentum.

Co-Lin answered with steady scoring through the middle frames and a late push in the seventh. Aubre Fuller worked five innings in the circle, while Marissa Montoya paced the offense with two hits. Moreno's early homer set an assertive tone that carried into the second game.

Game 2: LSCPA 5, Johnson County 4

Hurt Dominates as Seahawks Capture First Win

The Seahawks responded with purpose in game two, building a five‑run cushion by the fourth inning and holding off a late Johnson County rally to notch their first win of the season.

Moreno continued her strong day with an RBI single in the first. LSCPA added another run in the third and kept pressure on with timely hitting. Jillian Vykukal led the offense with a 2‑for‑3 performance, while Quinn Zaragoza and Moreno each drove in a run.

Sophomore pitcher Kendall Hurt delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament's opening day. She threw 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and no earned runs, striking out six with just one walk. Fuller entered in relief to help close out the victory.

The win underscored LSCPA's resilience and ability to respond after a challenging opener.

Looking Ahead
