GOODMAN, MS — Lamar State College Port Arthur showed grit and late‑game fight in a pair of tightly contested matchups Saturday, pushing Holmes Community College to the wire in both games of a road doubleheader. Despite falling 5–4 and 3–2, the Seahawks continued to demonstrate growth, depth, and competitive fire as they prepare for a demanding stretch of games in Texas and Louisiana — capped by two Spring Break home doubleheaders at Martin Field.
Seahawks Rally Falls Just Short in Game 1
LSCPA nearly erased a four‑run deficit in the opener, clawing back before ultimately dropping a 5–4 decision.
Holmes jumped ahead early with a three‑run first inning, but the Seahawks refused to fold. A triple, a fielder's choice, a run‑scoring single, and a sacrifice fly fueled the comeback effort as LSCPA chipped away inning by inning.
Aubre Fuller delivered a steady performance in the circle, going six innings with eight hits allowed and just one walk. The Seahawks' offense was paced by leadoff spark plug Quinn Zaragoza, who went a perfect 3-for-3. Alyssa Lewis, Marissa Montoya, and Zaragoza each drove in a run, while Kori Vasquez added two hits to keep the pressure on Holmes throughout the afternoon.
LSCPA's plate discipline also stood out, drawing four walks and forcing long at‑bats that kept the Bulldogs' pitching staff working.
Walk-Off Stings Seahawks in Game 2 Heartbreaker
Game 2 delivered another nail‑biter, with LSCPA holding a 2–1 lead entering the bottom of the seventh before Holmes rallied for a walk‑off 3–2 win.
Freshman right‑hander Kendall Hurt was outstanding, tossing 6.1 innings while allowing just one earned run, striking out three, and issuing no walks. Her command and poise kept the Seahawks in control for most of the game.
LSCPA struck first in the third inning when Abigail Moreno grounded out to score a run. Moreno and Alyssa Lewis each tallied an RBI, while Zaragoza once again anchored the offense with her second straight 3-for-3 performance from the leadoff spot.
Holmes managed to push across the tying run on an error before a two‑run single sealed the walk‑off.
Despite the loss, the Seahawks' pitching and defensive intensity kept them in position to win throughout the contest.
