Like Lamar State College Port Arthur, Pensacola State College, the host of their annual Thanksgiving Classic, was looking for its first win of the three-day tournament. It would be the Pirates who escaped with a win in the tourney's final game as they took a 62-49 decision at Hartsell Arena in Pensacola, Florida on Wednesday, November 23.
The Seahawks, 4-5 with the loss, took an early lead and went to the locker room at the half with a one-point advantage, 23-22. The Pirates, though, came out strong in the second half, outscoring LSCPA 40-26 for the win.
While the overall field goal percentage and 3-point shooting percentage were close between the competitors, it was the Pirates' domination of the boards that made the difference as they grabbed 45 boards to LSCPA's 26.
Deuce Guidry led the Seahawks with 13 points while teammate Jordan Henderson added 10. Simeon Richardson-Collins led the Hawks on the boards, coming off the bench to pull down eight rebounds.
The Seahawks open NJCAA Region 14 play on Wednesday, November 30, at home when they face Panola College. The Ponies are ranked 24th in the nation coming into Wednesday's game with the Seahawks.
